Get a Glimpse of the Restoration: The Nathan Fisher House

The Nathan Fisher House, located at 201 Turnpike Road (Route 9 West) in Westborough, MA, is a cherished piece of the town’s history. Built in 1820, this stately home has long stood as a symbol of Westborough’s rich architectural and cultural heritage. After regaining control of the property from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in 2010, the Town of Westborough made several attempts to find a buyer who could honor the home’s legacy while breathing new life into the space.

Despite the town’s best efforts, the historic preservation restrictions placed on the property—designed to protect its character and significance—proved to be a challenge for many prospective buyers. These restrictions, while deeply valued by local preservationists and volunteers who had invested time and resources into restoring the home, limited the scope of potential redevelopment.

That changed in June 2015, when the Westborough Board of Selectmen voted to accept a proposal from Release Well-Being Center, LLC, led by local entrepreneur Linda Townsend. Her vision was met with enthusiasm and relief by many in the community. Linda’s plan not only respects the historical integrity of the Nathan Fisher House but also introduces a forward-thinking concept: a wellness center that promotes holistic health and community connection.

The proposal includes restoring the original home and adding approximately 7,000 square feet for wellness services, along with an additional 7,000 square feet designated for retail or restaurant use. This thoughtful blend of preservation and innovation promises to revitalize the property while serving the evolving needs of the community.

Westborough TV recently caught up with Linda to capture a behind-the-scenes look at the house and grounds before renovations begin. The station plans to document the transformation over time, offering residents a unique opportunity to witness the restoration of this historic landmark—an inspiring blend of past and future coming together in the heart of Westborough.
