At Nourish, we believe in healthy, honest, homemade food and we serve it with love at the Nathan Fisher House.
According to the Chopra Center, “Next to breathing, eating is our most vital bodily function. To create a healthy body and mind, our food must be nourishing. Ideal nutrition comes from consuming a variety of foods that are appropriately prepared and eaten with awareness.”
We spoke with café manager, Kerrie Desautell, about her vision for Nourish, and the team’s commitment to serving healthy food, made with love.
How did your journey lead you to Nourish at Release Wellbeing Center?
I’ve worked in restaurant management for eight years. I have a passion for food, customer service and people.
Like many people, over time, I found that I was stressed out, working too hard, and not taking care of myself. So I visited a spa for a much-needed day to myself. While there, I took care of myself, enjoyed fresh, healthy clean food, and left feeling totally rejuvenated. That experience started me on a journey to take better care of myself, and as a food person, a big part of that was a commitment to clean eating.
When the opportunity to join the team here at Release came along, it was like a sign to me – clearly this is the place I need to be.
What is your vision for Nourish?
The most exciting part of my day is watching people gather at Nourish. We’ve got members who stop by for lunch after a workout, and we have groups of friends who come in especially to visit the café and to talk, laugh and catch up. We are growing into a busy, trendy café that serves nutritious, organic, locally-sourced, delicious food.
We are serving and food, and providing an experience that is available at trendy cafes in metro areas. I believe our success comes from our passion – we put our heart into every dish. Our team is continuing to work hard to make Nourish a destination for healthy delicious meals in the Boroughs area.
What’s your favorite thing on the menu?
Right now, I’m loving our Nourish chicken salad. Instead of using mayonnaise, we use a greek yogurt base to make a delicious and nutritious salad that is served over mixed greens. It is absolutely delicious and really popular.
We’re also super-excited about our juices and smoothies – which are popular, and super-healthy.
Can you share a recipe?
Everyone should try our amazing Beetox juice. Ninety-five percent of the vitamins and enzymes our bodies need are found in the juice of raw fruits and vegetables. We would need to eat two pounds of carrots, 12 apples or eight pounds of spinach to get the same nutrients you can get in 16 oz of fresh juice. Here’s what you’ll need to make the Beetox juice in your juicer at home:
3 Beets
5 apples
1 cuke
1 bunch celery
1 cup greens
2” ginger root
