Women In Wellness: The Importance of Physical Therapy

At Release Well-Being Center, we’re all about positive physical health habits. No matter your age, regular exercise comes with loads of valuable benefits. Beyond maintaining a healthy weight or building muscles, 30 minutes of moderate-intensity workouts a day can reduce stress, lower the risk of disease, and boost energy levels. Adding a physical therapist’s (PT) expertise can help restore mobility, range of motion, and quality of life, particularly after an injury. The targeted support offered by physical therapy lets you get the most out of your physical regimen.

Taking a multifaceted approach to wellness can support you at every stage of your wellness journey. That was one of the many reasons Doctor Casey Egan and her team partnered with Release Back Bay. “We are always hoping to expand wellness initiatives and offerings beyond our services to keep our clients and the community feeling their best,” she said. “[Ripple and Release both] see our clients through a large timespan and understand different services can help in different phases of recovery, activity, and mental health.”

We’re proud to collaborate with our Back Bay neighbors, Ripple Base Camp, to deliver therapeutic spa services, bliss therapies, and PT expertise to create the perfect recovery and wellness package.

Ripple Physical Therapy x Release

The importance of physical activity and maintaining physical health is undeniable. Egan emphasizes the importance of staying active and shares what you can do to hone in on any areas that may be causing discomfort or pain.

  1. Why is it essential to stay active and keep the body moving?
  2. “Physical activity is not only important for physical health but for so many more aspects of our day. It is often a time to destress and promote mental health for so many people. It also creates a routine that can help overall wellness and ensure everyone has moments for themselves worked into the day. Activities can look so different and come in many unique ways, which is always fun to see with clients.”
  3. Is there a certain age at which people should engage in more physical activity?
  4. “As we get older, activity becomes more structured and I think that is an important moment to be intentional about the activity. Everyone finds pleasure in different hobbies and activities, and it is great to find something you enjoy. Whether that be a social activity or something that gives you a moment alone, there are so many options in this community!” A few simple activities to build strength and endurance include walking, biking, dancing, invigorating yoga classes, or simple wall push-ups.
  5. What are the benefits of maintaining good physical health?
  6. “Aside from the obvious reduction in risk of so many health conditions, good health translates well beyond that. Maintaining healthy routines in life allows us more control over our day-to-day lives. At Ripple, we know firsthand how an injury, ache, or pain can halt a client in their tracks. When injured and out of routine, it feels as though control over the day-to-day is lost. People exercise for so many different reasons but anything that gets in the way of that can have a really negative effect on a person’s life.”
  7. What are the benefits of combining Ripple Physical Therapy with Release’s Spa or Bliss services?
  8. “We work with clients through a continuity of care. We love being their guide as they get to a pain-free state and continue through their high-level lives.

In this phase, there are so many benefits from tissue work and contrast therapy to supplement and continue to promote their activity levels. Our clients love so many different hobbies but what they have in common is remaining unrestricted. Spa services can help supplement the loading we do in our gym and contrast therapy can have so many great health benefits. It feels amazing, personally.”

  1. Why might someone pursue or go to a Physical Therapist?
  2. “I believe everyone should see a physical therapist; many people can benefit from a screening and individualized program. Movement dysfunctions can present without any pain at all, so a full body movement analysis can help prevent future impairment.

Whether your goal is to run a marathon, PR an olympic lift, start going on daily walks or pick up your grandchild pain free, there is so much physical therapy can do for all of it.”

  1. Can you share five helpful tips that benefit you?
  2. “Asking for help! Even as a PT myself, having guidance is so necessary to be on a program with some external accountability.
  3. Have an open mindset. Try something new; mixing in different activities or modalities can be so beneficial to challenging your body in new ways.
  4. Be accountable to yourself. Whether you are someone who writes down your goals or tracks your activities, if you are doing it for yourself, you will get it done!
  5. Form a community. This could be through your activities or through places like Ripple and Release that foster a community and environment for growth.
  6. Have fun! Do something you enjoy EVERY day, might not be able to ski that bowl or drive the green on a Tuesday in July but find those little things too, it’s worth it!”
