The average adult needs seven to eight hours of sleep each night. Sleep deprivation is associated with a number of adverse health effects, including a depressed immune system, increased risk for cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes, brain fog, mood issues, and the list goes on.
The root of your sleep issue may be anything from hormonal imbalance, to lifestyle, to sleep apnea. Functional medicine can help you investigate what might be going on. If food, hormones and lifestyle seem to be in check, of the first things I recommend to my clients is a sleep study.
